KillBook
The power is out at an old school. Everyone carries a torch and only sees what they point it at.
Somewhere in the building is the Killbook. When the bell rings, everyone has one minute to search desks, lockers and cupboards. Whoever opens the right one secretly becomes the Killer, and nobody else is told.
Every player's name tag hangs on a wall somewhere in the school. The Killer's job is to take tags down without being seen, open the book and write the names. Everyone else's job is to guard their own tag, keep an eye on each other, and work out who it is before it's too late.
Every three minutes, or sooner if someone rings the bell, everyone is pulled to the meeting table. You get 30 seconds to talk and a minute to vote. Vote out the wrong person and the Killer is still among you. Vote out the right one and the police arrive.
Modes
- Killer Only (4–12 players): the short game.
- Killer + Detective (6–14 players): one civilian is secretly made the Detective. They have no name tag to steal, can travel with their torch off, and their vote counts twice. Nobody knows who they are.
- Play with Bots: start a full match straight away with as many bots as you like, or add bots to fill seats around your friends. Bots play by exactly the same rules and only know what a player would know. They search, hide in closets, open closet doors to check, guard their tags, call meetings when they've seen something, argue, and vote. A bot Killer waits until nobody's watching.
- Escape Room (solo): three fuse boxes in an endless yellow maze, and something in there with you. Escape, and you earn one turn as It. Wake on the floor, rise when you see them, follow their footprints and a scent hint every 12 seconds, howl to flush them out, and catch them three times before they reach the door.
Features
- Real-time multiplayer for up to 14 players, with public matchmaking or private 5-letter room codes.
- Proximity voice chat and text chat.
- Doors that open and shut and block sight, closets to hide in, and a minimap.
- Plays on desktop and phones, with touch controls and full screen.
- The server holds all the hidden information. Your browser is only ever told what your character can actually see, so nobody can cheat by reading the game's data.
How to play
- Enter a name and pick Quick Start, Private, Play with Bots or Escape Room.
- Search minute: hold E on anything marked with a white (i). One of them holds the Killbook.
- Hunt: stay near your name tag, watch the others, and ring the bell on the meeting table if you've seen something.
- As the Killer: stand at a tag until it comes off the wall, then press K to open the book and write the name. Turn your torch off with F to do it unseen.
- Meetings: talk, then vote. Civilians win by voting out the Killer. The Killer wins when only one other player is left alive.

Multiplayer and Edgegap
Matches run on Edgegap game servers. When you start or join a match, a small launcher on Render finds a running Edgegap server, or deploys a fresh one, and connects you to it. Room codes work across servers: the launcher asks each live server which one holds your room. Servers stop themselves when idle, and won't start a match they can't finish before their time runs out. If Edgegap can't provide a server, Render hosts the match itself, so nobody is left waiting.
- Server: Node.js and WebSockets. The server is authoritative and runs at 20 ticks a second. It checks every move, search, vote and kill, and sends each player only what their character can see.
- Client: plain JavaScript and Three.js, with no build step.
- Bots run inside the game server, so a bot match needs no extra players or machines.
